SUMMARY:The Skatalites\, The Slackers\, Proper Villain Soundsystem
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS FOR SALE HERE\n \nThe Skatalites have been described by Rolling Stone Magazine as “Jamaica’s answer to the Motown house band and Booker T. and the MG’s combined”.  There would be no ska\, rocksteady or reggae without the Skatalites’ influence in the early ‘60’s.  Founding members Doreen Shaffer and Lester Sterling are still rocking it with newer members\, some of whom have been with the band over 20 years\, as many of the original ones have passed on. \nSince 1991\, The Slackers have been performing what Bandleader Vic Ruggiero\, calls “Jamaican Rock N’ Roll.” \nYou can hear in their rhythms the sounds of Jamaican roots music like those done by The Skatalites and Early Wailers but its sung with a New York accent\, and their original songs are written from an American perspective. Their reworking of genre\, sounds something similar to what Bob Dylan\, the Sonics\, or the Rolling Stones would have sounded like if they grew up on as much Reggae and Ska as they did R&B. \nWinston will be on hand with his Caribbean Island catering.

SUMMARY:Alika\, Dub Gideon\, Likkle Shanxx\, Anya
DESCRIPTION:OFFICIAL REGGAE FEST AFTERPARTY \nALIKA (born Alicia Del Monte Campuzano in Montevideo\, Uruguay and raised in Bueno Aires\, Argentina) is one of the most important artists in South America. \nIn ’95\, Alika was part of Argentina’s first hip hop acts\, female duo Actitud Maria Marta with Malena D’Alessio. Aika’s music serves an ode to her Rastafarian believes embodied in an activist spirit and strong work ethic. Alika’s latest album Mi Palabra\, Mi Alma (My Word\, My Soul) was released in December 2013 and is a 19 track compilation of soulful verities. \nAlika performs with San Antonio’s Dub Gideon also featuring Likkle Shankz.

SUMMARY:Joe Driscoll & Sekou Kouyate
DESCRIPTION:JOIN THE FB EVENT HERE \nThe collaboration between a rapper/beatboxer/singer-songwriter from Syracuse\, NY and an electrifying African kora sensation from Guinea blends hip-hop\, funk\, and soulful\, accessible rock with Afrobeat\, reggae and irresistible African grooves. \nJoe Driscoll & Sekou Kouyate return to North America on the heels of a triumphant debut in 2014. After the release of their acclaimed album Faya by Cumbancha Discovery and a successful tour in the summer of 2014\, Driscoll and Kouyate\, backed by bassist John Railton and drummer James Breen\, bring their electrifying collaboration to venues across the US and Canada starting January 29th. \nThe well-worn and often overblown expression “music is a common language” has never been more apropos in the case of Joe Driscoll & Sekou Kouyate. Driscoll contributes the rapping\, looping\, beatboxing and songwriting talents he developed growing up in Syracuse\, New York and during his own successful recording career. Kouyate\, already a phenomenon in African music circles\, has blown minds and ears with his hypersonic electrified riffs on the kora\, bringing the exalted West African harp into the 21stCentury with use of distortion peddles\, effects and previously-unimagined technical prowess. \n“A gloriously accessible collision of styles. It’s an unlikely collaboration that works\, magnificently.” – The Guardian

SUMMARY:Oliver Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits\, Bamako Airlines
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS ON SALE HERE \n \nOne of Africa’s musical giants\, Zimbabwe’s Oliver Mtukudzi is a guitarist\, vocalist\, performer and composer. And he must be one of the few people to have a beat named after him: ‘tuku’! \nZimbabwe’s pride\, most successful artist and national treasure\, Oliver Mtukudzi is gifted with a deep and gusty voice plus a talent for writing songs that reflect on the daily life and struggles of his people. ‘Tuku’ as he is known\, began performing in 1977 and has earned a devoted following across Africa and beyond\, all the while incorporating elements of different musical traditions. A member of Zimbabwe’s Kore Kore tribe\, he sings in the nation’s dominant Shona language as well as Ndebele and English. \nTuku’s music is heavily influenced by a humanist chimurenga ethos\, which\, in turn\, is inspired by the hypnotic rhythms of the mbira (thumb piano). His music also incorporates South Africa mbaqanga\, the energetic Zimbabwean pop style jit\, and the traditional kateke drumming of his clan. One of Tuku’s biggest fans is Bonnie Raitt\, who has not only called Tuku “a treasure\,” and recorded a cover of “Hear me Lord” but also credits Tuku as the inspiration for the song “One Belief Away” on her album Fundamental. \nTuku (along with Angelique Kidjo\, Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo) is one of the most successful African recordings artists in North America\, having sold hundreds of thousand of records on Putumayo\, Heads Up/Telarc and Sheer Sound. Tuku is an alumni of Acoustic Africa II (2011 edition) and a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Eastern and Southern Africa\, focusing on Young People’s Development and HIV and AIDS Prevention.
