DESCRIPTION:Powered by Eventbrite\n\n \nLocos Por Juana is a GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominated bilingual Latin Jam-Band\, most notably recognized for their energetic live performance and unique fusion of Latin\, Caribbean\, and American rhythms. The band was formed in Miami\, FL in 2000. The band consists of vocalist Itagui Correa\, guitarist Mark Kondrat and drummer Javier Delgado\, which form the nucleus of the group\, joined by trombonist Lasim Richards and percussionist Carlos Palmet. At times there are as many as five to seven guest musicians that join the band onstage for shows and tours. \nLocos Por Juana’s sound is a distinct one\, a hybrid drawing not only from the band members’ diverse backgrounds but also from other countries’ musical styles as well. Correa and Delgado were born in Colombia\, and Kondrat is a Miami native of Colombian descent. As such\, they incorporate the beloved sounds of their heritage and upbringing like Cumbia\, Champeta and Afro-Colombian rhythms such as Mapale and Chande\, reshaping and breathing new life into them in order to give them a new identity altogether. Also integral to Locos Por Juana’s style are musical influences from Miami and the Caribbean islands including Reggae\, Raggamuffin\, and Dub from Jamaica along with Hip-Hop\, Rock\, and Funk leading to fusion that Kondrat coined “that island swing” In essence\, the heart and soul of the band’s style emanates from Colombia\, a country whose musical styles are ever-present in band’s music.

Online ticket sales stop at 6 p.m. and tickets will be available at the door unless noted otherwise. \nFlamingo Cantina is thrilled to welcome back Grimy Styles for their DISTERIA record release party as they throw down the very best in all instrumental dub reggae. Two ticket options available. $15 for general admission or $25 for admission + a vinyl copy of their new album DISTERIA (includes digital download card) to be distributed at show. \nGrimy Styles recorded “Disteria” at Cacophony Recorders by Erik Wofford (Black Angels\, M. Ward) in a traditional ‘live take’ directly to tape. Instead of focusing on overdubs and post production\, each member utilizes their own ‘dub’ effects workstation\, which is processed live during the take. \nOn top of the studio mics\, the drummer rigs a separate mic setup which he then manipulates through a side mixer with echo\, reverb and filter processors. He often can be seen playing one handed\, as he reaches over to activate pedals or send ‘reverb splashes’. The concept is for the four members to meld this amalgamation of effects into a cohesive syncopated Dub journey. \nIn a departure from the traditional reggae songwriting intrinsic to Jamaican Dub\, Grimy Styles draws inspiration from many artists spanning from Pink Floyd to Slayer and Astor Piazzola to U2. Classically inspired melodica and guitar drive melodies while drum and bass point back to the fundamental rhythm of King Tubby and Lee Scratch Perry. \nGrimy Styles took their unique live show to the four corners of the continental USA following the release of their debut studio record “Rewind”. They have been featured on The Future Sound of Reggae Vol. 1; compiled with Capleton\, Sizzla and Luciano on Gibbo Records; and worked with DJ Rapid Ric\, Chalie Boy and Mr Blakes on The Return of the Versatyle Child Mixtape.

DESCRIPTION:$20 advance tickets / $25 at door \n \nGolden Ganga es una agrupación musical cuya principal fuente de inspiración se encuentra en el seno de los movimientos de contracultura urbana\, de los cuales adopta modelos específicos como un vehículo de expresión de ideas y emociones que van desde los aspectos más universales en la vida del ser humano\, hasta las situaciones más particulares que son capaces de ocurrir en el entorno citadino\, adaptando estos modelos de acuerdo a un estilo propio y en función de la diversidad de enfoques y experiencias que posee cada uno de sus integrantes.\nConformada en la actualidad por 9 elementos\, la banda tiene su origen a principios del año 2006\, y es a partir de ese momento que comienza a construirse un historial dentro de la escena musical tapatía\, siendo participe de distintos festivales y conciertos en los que comparte escenario con algunas de las bandas actuales de reggae y otros géneros\, más representativas de Europa y América\, tales como lo son Skatalites (Jamaica)\, Brinsley Forde (ex vocalista de la banda inglesa Aswad)\, Cultura Profética (Puerto Rico)\, Los Cafres (Argentina)\, Gondwana (Chile)\, Lumumba (Argentina)\, Calle 13 (Puerto Rico)\, Antidoping (México)\, entre otras reconocidas agrupaciones internacionales y nacionales\, además de difundir su música en gran parte de los foros locales y en otros estados\, en los cuales se incluyen el Distrito Federal\, Puebla y Colima. En marzo de 2008\, Golden Ganga da a conocer su primer material discográfico de título homónimo\, el cual está constituido por un total de 13 temas\, en el que se incluye además el vídeo clip de uno de los temas del disco\, titulado Mi área. Mediante este material es posible distinguir el híbrido de géneros que la agrupación maneja y hace parte de su música\, para así lograr un sonido propio y sui generis\, el cual se basa en la música reggae y adquiere matices de otros ritmos como lo son el hip-hop\, ska\, rock\, funk\, bossa\, latín\, entre otros. Así pues\, a través de la difusión de este material que conlleva el trabajo de su incipiente trayectoria y el contacto directo con el público\, Golden Ganga ha logrado la aceptación de la gente y la apertura de nuevos espacios para promover su música\, así como la posibilidad de compartirla con un sector más amplio de la sociedad.
