DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE\nFormed in 2003 by a trio of Sublime and Pixies fans\, Joshua Swain\, Jordan Miller\, and John Ruff\, aka DJ Riggles\, launched The Movement with their “alternative reggae” debut album\, ON YOUR FEET. In 2008\, the group met Chris DiBeneditto\, a Philadelphia-based producer who had worked with like-minded acts such as Slightly Stoopid and G. Love & Special Sauce. Relocating to Philadelphia\, they recorded SET SAIL at DiBeneditto’s Philadelphonic Studios. The Movement expanded with the addition of Jason “Smiles” Schmidt on bass and Gary Jackson on drums. In 2012\, they released SIDE BY SIDE\, debuting at #2 on the Billboard Reggae Chart. In 2014 The Movement released BENEATH THE PALMS\, a surprise acoustic album as a free gift to their fans. Shortly thereafter they began working on what would become their finest album to date\, GOLDEN\, which hit #1 on iTunes and Billboard Reggae charts and was voted 2016 Album Of The Year by Surf Roots Radio. Keyboardist Ross Bogan joined the group in Spring of 2016. \nThis show is 18+

We are thrilled to welcome back Black Uhuru and New Kingston for a night of most righteous reggae.  \nDerrick “Duckie” Simpson the “Gong Gong Gullie” is the founder and leader for reggae’s Black Uhuru. Although going through numerous lead singers and musicians they have remained to be one of the most recognized and prolific reggae band for over 50 years. \nNew Kingston is a progressive reggae group whose members combine their Jamaican heritage with the urban sounds of their New York home\, New Kingston are a family band consisting of brothers Tahir\, Courtney Jr.\, and Stephen along with their father\, Courtney Panton\, Sr. A first-generation Jamaican-American\, Courtney the elder was active in New York’s reggae scene before turning his sons on to the music of their island heritage. Born out of jam sessions in the family’s Brooklyn basement\, the brothers began their career playing Bob Marley and Earth\, Wind & Fire covers at parties and gatherings around the neighborhood. By 2010\, they’d become focused on their own writing\, which fused R&B\, hip-hop\, and dancehall with traditional reggae sounds.  \n

A huge talent for live shows\, a unique personality and a very special voice have seduced Jamaican producers. Recorded in the mythic Tuff Gong studios with many in the Jamaican new generation her latest album is an additional jewel into the new roots movement with rock influences. \nWe always LOVE having reggae legend Sister Nancy in the house! Hailing from Kingston\, Jamaica Sister Nancy is known to the world as the first female dancehall DJ who provided us with the reggae classic\, ‘Bam Bam’. But that’s not where her catalogue ends. Sister Nancy was and still is a talented singer and toaster who can keep a party going all night long.

Joseph Hill\, singer and songwriter for the legendary Jamaican vocal trio Culture\, collapsed and died while on a 2006 tour of Europe. To the amazement of promoters\, fans and critics alike\, Kenyatta stepped onstage and delivered electrifying performances time and again – nineteen shows in all – until the tour was complete. This was unheard of in any genre of music at any time. Kenyatta gave of himself so totally – as his father had for so many years – that the two seemed to become one\, the eerily similar voices and the vibes igniting the critics and yielding a new reggae mantra “magic\, not tragic!” \nAt the Ranny Williams Center in Kingston Jamaica at the memorial concert for his father\, Kenyatta’s performance with Culture was the highlight in a star studded night and garnered him the rousing support of the hard-to-please Kingston reggae audience. Kenyatta went on to front Culture in a series of performances in the US\, Caribbean\, Brazil\, Argentina and Peru\, again leaving audiences amazed and delighted. \nInfluenced by elements of dancehall\, grounded in the roots tradition and motivated to carry on his father’s work\, Kenyatta set to writing – to finish songs that Joseph had started and create new music of his own. On his poignant debut single\, “Daddy\,” (Tafari Records)\, backed by a masterful roster of musicians including Sly Dunbar and Dean Fraser\, and produced by Lynford “Fatta” Marshall\, he confronted the emotional pain and uncertainty he felt after the loss of his father. He cried while he wrote\, just as audiences in Europe had cried while he sang. \nPass the Torch\, the complete CD described as having “a collector’s item feel\,” was released in 2007 to longtime Culture fans and critics who have embraced the son\, named for Jomo Kenyatta\, the first Prime minister of Kenya. With its “very lovely and high level vibe” Kenyatta Hill’s first CD prompted one longtime Culture fan to proclaim “Culture is ALIVE.” \nIndeed\, Culture featuring Kenyatta Hill continues to share the wisdom of Joseph’s conscious reggae overlaid with Kenyatta’s own lively and youthful musical vision.  \nDoors 9 p.m. \nWinston’s Kitchen will be open.
