DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE\nThe EarthKry band was born and nurtured within the halls of the Edna Manley College of The Visual & Performing Arts in Kingston\, Jamaica where four budding musicians hoped to hone their skills. Their journey began with a twist of fate which brought together keyboard player Phillip Mcfarlane \, drummer Kieron Cunningham\, bass guitarist Kamardo Blake and vocalist/guitarist Aldayne Haughton\, to play a series of small gigs. Drawing inspiration from Bob Marley and The Wailers\, The Beatles\, John Holt\, Peter Tosh\, Jacob Miller\, Black Uhuru and Steel Pulse\, the group soon cemented a wholesome fusion of Roots Reggae\, Souls and Rock genres for a fresh but universal sound. \nMuch like the iconic reggae outfit The Wailers\, the band chose its name\, EarthKry\, to signify its mission to voice the grievances of the downtrodden through the vibrations of their music. Befittingly\, their debut single “9 to 5” echoes the daily tribulations of the working class who are barely able to make ends meet from the menial wages they receive. \nSince 2013 the band has spent much of their time creating music with other notable artistes in recording sessions while further developing their signature sound. Through the guidance of veteran drummer/ lecturer Derrick Stewart\, veteran trumpeter Nambo Robinson and guitarist/former tutor Maurice Gordon\, the band works towards releasing their first E.P and then debut album Hard Road in the near future. Earthkry is just coming off of a huge tour to Austraila and New Zealand with Katchafire. \nLocal reggae heavies Lion Heights and Houston’s Roots from the Clay kick off the show. \n \n

The Book of Enoch\, Noah’s great-grandfather\, was obscured for generations until three copies were brought out of Ethiopia by a prominent European explorer. Events like these have triggered paradigm shifts in the evolution of human thinking\, yet the same principle applies to individual growth as well. \nAkae Beka is the current manifestation of an evolving consciousness. Following a quarter of a century as lead singer and co-founder for the legendary\, St. Croix-based band\, Midnite\, Vaughn Benjamin was inspired to intensify his light when life situations led him to revisit the Book of Enoch. He then realized his preparedness to answer the calling of a sacred oath described therein\, the Akae\, the Beka\, one and the same. Much like the archangel Michael who was responsible for the truths pertaining to the secrets of creation\, so does Benjamin today accept his role in a parallel time of rampant deception and broken taboos in the arenas of world leadership. Always rooted firmly in the teachings of His Imperial Majesty\, Emperor Haile Selassie I\, his personal evolution and reaffirmed purpose is manifested in his newly declared name. \nVaughn and his brother Ron Benjamin\, sons of Antiguan music legend Ronnie Benjamin\, Sr.\, together sowed the seeds of Midnite in 1989. During the mid-1990s\, the band embarked on a 5-year sojourn in Washington DC\, where they became area legends for their nightly 3-5 hour sets. Albums such as the debut Unpolished (1997)\, Ras Mek Peace (1999) and the seminal third release\, Jubilees Of Zion (2001)\, collectively set the tone for what would become more than 60 albums leading up to 2014. That year\, their album Beauty For Ashes (a Midnite – I Grade collaboration) was named ‘Reggae Album of the Year’ by iTunes. \nThough his signature voice and edifying poetry graces an incredibly vast catalog of recordings\, Akae Beka was unleashed by Fifth Son / VPAL Music in November 2015 with the debut album\, Homage To The Land. The sophomore follow up\, Portals\, was released in collaboration with I Grade Records in April 2016. Livicated\, released October 2016 on the Zion High Productions label\, is the third and most recent project continuing Benjamin’s reputation for prolific output. JahSayDo\, the fourth release under Akae Beka\, will be released on March 31\, 2017. Still he explores and introduces ancient\, esoteric knowledge in ways applicable to present day realities. \nAkae Beka is accompanied by the following players of instruments: Peter Willock (drums and percussions)\, Lyndon ‘Ras L’ Williams (bass)\, Edmund Fieulleteau (guitar)\, Legrand Lee (guitar) and Suren Fenton (keyboards). Consisting mostly of former Midnite band members\, the Akae Beka sound builds on a strong foundation of trance-inducing performance experiences across five continents and countless festivals such as Bonaroo\, Outside Lands\, Reggae on the River\, Sierra Nevada World Music Festival\, Summerjam\, Rototom Sunsplash and Reggae Jam. \n\nDoors open at 9 p.m. Winston’s Kitchen on hand with delicious Caribbean fare. DESCRIPTION:“If you stuck the Replacements\, David Bowie\, and John Prine in a blender\, slowed them all down with some codeine\, and let them stumble woozily around\, you’d get The Savage Poor’s The Grown Ups.” – No Depression \nHailing from Austin\, TX\, The Savage Poor is the band project of brothers Jeff and Ben Brown. Growing up in central PA\, Jeff learned to write songs as a teenager by listening to Ramones records\, while Ben learned on his own studying David Bowie. In their early 20’s they decided to join forces and began playing and writing together. The Brown brothers have always been infatuated by the excitement of American rock n’ roll and the cinematic soundscapes of British post punk and indie music\, with one foot in the world of The Replacements and another in The Smiths\, with the literary influence of Lou Reed and the rainy day dreams of The Cure. Being based in Texas\, Jeff and Ben feel that the eclecticism of Doug Sahm and the opera of Roy Orbison has also been an influence on their music. \nThe band is led by Jeff Brown (Shinyribs/ATX top ten bass players of 2017) and Ben Brown who share lead vocals and electric guitar duty\, backed by Alex Moralez on drums (Bo Diddley)\, Roger Wuthrich on bass and newest addition Christine Smith on keyboards and background vocals. \nTheir current release “The Grown Ups” was recorded at The Shire in ATX. It was produced\, engineered and mixed by Christine Smith (Crash Test Dummies\, Jesse Malin\, Ryan Adams & Marah.) The foundation tracks were recorded completely analog in PA by Smith with David Bielanko of Marah. Special guests on the record include Keith Langford (The Gourds\, Shinyribs) on harmonica and Jeff Johnston (Ramsay Midwood) on saw. \n“The Grown Ups” is a subversive and eclectic album informed by the passion and possibility of rock n’ roll\, that takes a hard look at the here and now of modern life. Songs range from the explosive and humorous “Night of a Thousand Tuesdays\,” that ponders the greatest horror movie of all – endless weeks at a meaningless job – to the gentle and haunting title track\, which is an explanation from an adult to a child about why adults haven’t left the world a better place for them. The songs delve into both the explicitly political and the extremely personal. “That’s How the West Was Lost” is two and half minutes of exuberant pop\, steeped in the soundscapes of a Spaghetti Western\, that deals with America’s original sin in the exploitation of Native peoples. The 8 minute sonic death march of “Hand Coming Down” is a gloomy\, gothic romance from the point of view of someone coming of age in the modern world. \nJeff believes that “the best records always straddle the line between accessibility and mystery. Thematically I knew that we wanted to make an unsettling record that spoke to the insanity of modern America\, but more poetic than topical in its approach. DESCRIPTION:2 SETS | $5 \nMicah Shalom & The Babylonians plays a mix of Traditional Ska\, Roots Reggae\, Rocksteady\, and Afro-Beat grooves. Lead by a full horn section\, with occasional vocals by Micah Shalom and guest artists. Members of The Babylonians (Micah Shalom – horns\, Evan Hegarty – keys) have played with international producer and singer Mikey Dread A. K. A. Michael Campbell\, as well as Israel Vibration singer Craig “Apple” Garbriel.  \nThe Babylonians also play as a backing band\, and have done so for Kevin Batchelor(The Skatelites\, Steel Pulse trumpet player) and Cedric IM Brooks(Skatelites Tenor Saxophone\, and original Studio One musician) as well as Grammy award winner Calton Coffie of Inner Circle fame. Another member\, Mark Wilson – sax\, has played with countless artists most notably Burning Spear through the 90s. Together the group has formed strong ties to the reggae community with crossover into the world music scene.  \nAlways looking to mix genres to create a modern sound and original feel while keeping true to the roots of the music.
