SUMMARY:Negros Vivos (Puerto Rico)\, La Skandaloza
DESCRIPTION:BUY TIX HERE\n \nLive Blacks are born in 2000 after the separation of several members of one of the most important bands of\, The Black Feet. That is why Juan (Paíto) Rivera\, Alexis Matos and Willy “Black” decide to re-organize under the name of Living Blacks and continue with the same motivation that guided them in the past; Make music together and have fun. In 2003\, Negros Vivos launches its first record production entitled Living in Another Place and thus makes itself known abroad in countries such as\, United States\, Mexico\, Spain\, Venezuela and Argentina among others. Production exceeded expectations of the band immediately what motivated them to participate in several tours across the island and in presentations in the most important TV programs. and radio of Puerto Rico. With the musical direction of Paito\, (vocalist\, guitarist and original composer of The Black Feet) the band ensures its firm stance among the pioneers of the Ska movement on the island. Mixing the Ska with jazz\, blues\, soul\, calypso and reggae the band gets its peculiar sound and ends up quickly gaining the respect of the followers of this genre both locally and abroad. This also exposes them to being part of the most important compilation of the Puerto Rican local band scene entitled Uno Mas produced by Phat Productions & PulsoRock.com. In 2006\, they launched their second production on the market titled … Back Away which takes them on their first trip abroad (MEXICO) to present themselves in the best stages of the country. The plans of Black Live are plans full of ambition to return abroad\, and to get their music as far as possible\, something that they can easily achieve since their themes are related to the daily themes of life today. Lyrics that speak from love\, spite\, denunciations of social problems and songs to have a good time wherever we are. Currently the group is promoting its third self-titled record production Negros Vivos\, which brings them back to Mexican soil and even It opened the doors for them to perform at the famous Vive Latino Festival to be held in March 2013\, thus being just the fifth band of Puerto Rican origin to perform on such a prestigious stage. something that they can easily achieve since their themes relate to the daily themes of life today. SUMMARY:INSPECTOR\, Los Skarnales\, Sonido Emperador
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS\nOnline ticket sales end at 6 p.m. on 12/07. Ages 21 and up only. Tickets will be available at the door on a first come first served basis for cash only. Special guests to be announced soon.\n\n\n\n\nThe band Inspector fuses classic Jamaican rhythms with the feel of Mexican pop. Their style is a blend of ska + reggae\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nInspector was born in November 1995 with a group of kids who were looking for fun\, to create good music and enjoy themselves. After achieving their initial goals as a band\, they recorded an independent album called Blanco y Negro (1993) that made them known in the music scene of their hometown of Monterrey and other cities such as Guadalajara\, San Luis Potosí\, Leon\, Querétaro and Mexico City. During this time the group’s lineup began to take shape. Soon they began to be recognized in the ska scene in Mexico thanks to their songs and their unique style\, which is essentially reggae and ska\, but also crosses through genres such as jazz and rockabilly with rhythmic touches and romantic lyrics with which the public identified immediately. In 1998\, they won the prize “Nuestro Rock” for best new group which caused them to perform in more cities. \nAfter a long road and hundreds of concerts throughout Mexico\, in 2001 they were signed by the record company Universal Music Mexico and released their album Alma en fuego\, an album that would go platinum due to its high sales and which resulted in their first single “Amnesia”\, which they performed in collaboration with Roco (vocalist from the group Maldita Vecindad) and Ruben Albarran (vocalist for Café Tacuba). This first single was followed by the singles “Amargo Adiós”\, “Cara de chango\,” “Sin rencor” and the footballing theme “Aguante”. Alma en Fuego was nominated for a Lo Nuestro Award for Rock/Alternative Album of the Year while the band was listed for Rock New Artist at the 16th Lo Nuestro Awards\, losing both to Chilean band La Ley and Mexican singer Alessandra Rosaldo\, respectively. \nIn 2008\, they released their third album\, Unidad\, Cerveza y Ska\, an album where the idea was to give continuity between ska and the Mexican-ness and style of the band. From this production the following singles were released: “Ska Voovee Boobie Baby\,” “Cómo te extraño” and “Por última vez” \nIn 2009\, their fourth album\, Amar o morir\, was released\, where Inspector tried to re-discover their own style and express it in a fresh and interesting way by “travelling” through rhythms that range from punk to soul\, or blues to funk through Ska. \nTheir first single from this album is “El Dejado”. \nInspector returned in 2009 with their fifth production called “INSPECTOR”\, now produced independently with 13 tracks\, among which are the covers: “Besame Mucho” and the Madness classic “Our House”\, also included in this material is a duet of the track “November” with the Mexican singer Ely Guerra.

SUMMARY:Cocoa Tea\, Lion Heights\, DJ Jah Bill
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE\nCocoa Tea is a conscious reggae artist with serious lyrics\, one of Jamaica’s finest roots singers!  \nOnline ticket sales stop at 6 p.m. day of the show. Doors 8:30. Local reggae outfit Lion Heights opens the show; DJ JahBill on hand with the latest in roots and dancehall. Winston’s Kitchen will be open. \nCheck out Cocoa Tea’s message to you below! 🙂  \n \nCocoa Tea was one of the few early dancehall stars to carve out a consistent\, productive career as the genre evolved over the years. His cool-toned\, laid-back vocals were perfect for sweet\, smooth lovers rock\, and gave him a distinct identity amid his more aggressive peers. Still\, he was also capable of toughening up his sound on his cultural protest material\, which was often sharply perceptive. Tea was born Calvin Scott on September 3\, 1959\, in Rocky Point\, a small town in Jamaica’s Clarendon parish. He sang in his church and school choirs as a youth\, and made his first recordings for producer Willie Francis in 1974 at the mere age of 14; one single\, “Searching in the Hills\,” was released under his given name\, but went nowhere. He spent the next few years working as a racehorse jockey\, then as a fisherman; during the latter occupation\, he began to rediscover his musical ambitions\, performing with the traveling sound systems that passed through local dancehalls. \nWeh Dem a Go Do…Can’t Stop Cocoa Tea \nIn 1983\, he moved to Kingston and adopted the performing name Cocoa Tea\, after the Jamaican term for hot chocolate (later alternate spellings would include Coco Tea and Coco T). He soon met top dancehall producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes\, and recorded a series of hit singles that included “Rocking Dolly\,” “I Lost My Sonia\,” “Informer\,” and “Can’t Stop Cocoa Tea.” His first album\, Weh Dem a Go Do…Can’t Stop Coco Tea\, was released in 1985 and compiled many of his previous successes (a slightly different version\, Rocking Dolly\, was later issued in the U.S.). Lawes moved his operation to New York\, and King Jammy became Tea’s primary producer just as he was beginning to expand his focus to Rastafarian lyrical themes. The results included two albums\, 1986’s The Marshall and 1987’s Come Again\, and hit singles in those two title tracks\, “Tune In\,” and “Settle Down\,” among others. (credit Allmusic).

While details were scant\, Mello Music Group is happy to finally reveal the details and officially announce Skyzoo & Pete Rock’s new album\, Retropolitan\, with Billboard who premiered the lead single It’s All Good. \nIt’s All Good finds Skyzoo skating over a beat from Pete’s secret “SP-1200 stash\,” and this one in particular was produced in 1994 around the same time as Pete’s Illmatic sessions with Nas. \nRetropolitan includes 12-tracks\, all produced by Pete Rock\, with features from Styles P\, Benny The Butcher\, Conway\, Westside Gunn\, Elzhi\, and Raheem DeVaughn. \nIt is more than an album of beats. & rhymes. It’s two generations of legendary native New Yorkers putting it down and pulling no punches. Skyzoo & Pete Rock use this album to create a love letter and a wakeup call to the city\, as they have witnessed its culture stripped away layer-by-layer. \nAbout Elzhi: Before the world ever heard the name Elzhi\, the young artist was sitting in the back of classrooms thinking of rhymes and spitting verses\, while his friend Fes banged out beats on lunchroom tables and battled rival emcees on the blacktop after school. He sharpened every blade in his arsenal\, developing his style to measure up against the competition in Maurice Maloneis Hip Hop Shop\, the legendary proving ground for Detroit Artists that has produced some of the greatest emcees in the world. Elzhi spent years paying dues\, writing songs\, entering battles\, and recording demos until he made his international debut on Come and Get It\, a standout track from J Dilla’s album\, Welcome 2 Detroit. The critically acclaimed song drew massive attention to the mysterious artist\, and made his EP\, Out of Focus\, highly sought after. Following that\, he released the critically acclaimed Elmatic as a tribute to Nas as well as to Elzhi’s hometown of Detroit. in 2016 he released his long awaited album “Lead Poison”. Be on the lookout for a new Elzhi album in 2020.

DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS FOR NIGHT 2 (SATURDAY 11.09) HERE\n\n\n\n\n\nJamaican ska pioneers\, The Skatalites return to Flamingo Cantina for two nights of performances! 2019 marks their 55th anniversary. Micah Shalom and Kung Fu Soundsystem open the show.\n\n\n\n\nAdvance tickets are $20; ticket sales stop at 6 p.m. day of show; remaining tickets will be $25 cash at the door. Come hungry\, Winston’s Kitchen will be serving up delicious Caribbean food! \n\nJoin the event on FB here. \n\n \nThe original members of the Skatatlies performed on hundreds of recording sessions before forming the band in 1964. They backed most of the vocalists in Jamaica at that time\, including Bob Marley\, Toots and The Maytals\, Jimmy Cliff\, Alton Ellis\, Ken Boothe\, and many more. \nAfter disbanding in 1965\, the individual members continued playing in various groups as the music evolved from ska to rocksteady to reggae. In the late 70’s\, a resurgence of interest in the music began in the U.K. which caused the creation of many bands such as The Specials\, The English Beat\, Madness\, The Selecter\, and Bad Manners. This became known as the “Two-Tone era\,” and these British musicians fused rock music with the ska and reggae. \nIn The early 80’s\, the music started to spread to The U.S.A and other parts of the world\, and bands began to emerge everywhere playing different flavors of ska and reggae fused with whatever else they wanted to throw in\, including hard core\, jazz\, and even punk. In 1983\, The Skatalites reunited to play Reggae Sunsplash in Montego Bay and subsequently in London at The Crystal Palace for the U.K version of The Sunsplash event. \nA few years later\, they began emigrating to the U.S.A.\, and in 1986\, the first US shows began at The Village Gate in NYC. In 1989\, the band supported Bunny Wailer on The Liberation Tour\, and in 1990\, they embarked on their first headline tour of The U.S.A. and have not stopped touring the world ever since. The band is available for festivals and also plays in intimate club settings. Their unique infectious brand of real Jamaican ska pleases audiences of all ages across the globe year after year. “We hope you will enjoy listening to our music as much as we enjoy performing it for you.” \nForever indebted to the inspiration and talent of: Roland Alphonso\, Lloyd Brevett\, Tony DaCosta\, Rupert Dillon\, Don Drummond\, Joseph “Lord Tanamo” Gordon\, Jerome “Jah Jerry” Haynes\, Lloyd Knibb\, Tommy McCook\, Donat Roy “Jackie” Mittoo\, John “Dizzy Johnny” Moore\, Jackie Opel\, Doreen Shaffer\, Lester Sterling.

SUMMARY:Of Good Nature\, Lion Heights\, Bum Lucky
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE\nOf Good Nature (North Carolina)\, Lion Heights and Bum Lucky\nRoots+Rock+Reggae!\nJOIN THE EVENT ON FB HERE\n\n\n\n\nBased in Charlotte NC\, Of Good Nature\, has received quick attention to their newly released\, chart topping music. Reggae\, Pop\, Rock\, and Alternative are more popular descriptions of OGN’s fusion-friendly approach to today’s music\, but this group of prolific songwriters strive to explore a range of styles that have lead to a highly accessible sound. Brand new full length album “Timeless” debuted at #1 on iTunes and #3 on Billboard (Reggae Albums Chart) in March 2019. “Take Me Anywhere” has been featured on Sirius XM’s The Pulse\, “Feels Right” and “Good Life” are streamed on popular Spotify and Pandora playlists including Happy Songs For The Office\, Easy Like Sunday Morning\, and Reggae Summer Beach. \nCelebrating the successful release of “Timeless” the album\, Of Good Nature has announced their partnership with Ineffable Music Group based in Oakland CA. The band is set to already head back to the studio June 2019 with producer/engineer Danny Kalb (Beck\, Ben Harper\, Foster the People\, The Movement) at White Star Sound in Charlottesville\, VA. OGN also received recognition for their past studio work\, seeing their debut album\, Just Add Water\, won Indie-Ville’s Reggae Album of the Year and sophomore album Life Worth Livin\, debuted at #5 on iTunes Reggae Albums Charts. \nLion Heights – transplanted from Chicago\, LH has re-established their roots in Austin as one of the top Roots Reggae acts in Texas\, featuring Jeremy Carlson\, Dane Foltin\, James Campbell and Drae Wilson on drums. The group is mainly influenced by the roots music that was pumping out of Jamaica in the 60s and 70s. However\, combining aspects of soul and R&B helps them to introduce reggae music to new audiences. They have independently released one EP (Survival Of The Richest) and a handful of singles. Lion Heights released their first official single “Good One” which was distributed worldwide through label Rebel Sound. “Good One” has since been featured on radio shows all over the U.S. as well as Jamaica and the UK. In 2017\, the group released their first full-length record\, Same Situation\, which has been well-received locally and internationally. \n\nBum Lucky was born out of the desire to cultivate a distinguished reggae music scene in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Being located far from the beaches and pot-friendly atmospheres where the genre thrives forced the four-piece to dig deeper in its songwriting and sound — a welcome challenge that thrust the music new heights and enticed bands such as Fortune Youth and Tribal Seeds to play alongside Bum Lucky in their hometown. \nThe band’s latest EP\, Show Some Love\, is founded in roots-rock reggae and dub\, and tinged with elements from southern rock and blues. The result is a collection of songs as gritty as they are seductive — the music embodies a rebellious spirit that serves as both a call to action and remedy on the dancefloor. \nThis fresh approach has rewarded Bum Lucky opportunities to share the stage with bands such as the Original Wailers\, Lee Scratch Perry\, Katchafire\, Groundation\, the Expendables\, the Movement\, Sensamotion\, Mishka\, Tribal Seeds and Fortunate Youth\, among others. They’ve been guests at esteemed festivals throughout the Southwest while touring on a rigorous schedule the last several years to spread the gospel of good tunes.
