SUMMARY:Cocoa Tea\, Lion Heights\, DJ Jah Bill
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE\nCocoa Tea is a conscious reggae artist with serious lyrics\, one of Jamaica’s finest roots singers!  \nOnline ticket sales stop at 6 p.m. day of the show. Doors 8:30. Local reggae outfit Lion Heights opens the show; DJ JahBill on hand with the latest in roots and dancehall. Winston’s Kitchen will be open. \nCheck out Cocoa Tea’s message to you below! 🙂  \n \nCocoa Tea was one of the few early dancehall stars to carve out a consistent\, productive career as the genre evolved over the years. His cool-toned\, laid-back vocals were perfect for sweet\, smooth lovers rock\, and gave him a distinct identity amid his more aggressive peers. Still\, he was also capable of toughening up his sound on his cultural protest material\, which was often sharply perceptive. Tea was born Calvin Scott on September 3\, 1959\, in Rocky Point\, a small town in Jamaica’s Clarendon parish. He sang in his church and school choirs as a youth\, and made his first recordings for producer Willie Francis in 1974 at the mere age of 14; one single\, “Searching in the Hills\,” was released under his given name\, but went nowhere. He spent the next few years working as a racehorse jockey\, then as a fisherman; during the latter occupation\, he began to rediscover his musical ambitions\, performing with the traveling sound systems that passed through local dancehalls. \nWeh Dem a Go Do…Can’t Stop Cocoa Tea \nIn 1983\, he moved to Kingston and adopted the performing name Cocoa Tea\, after the Jamaican term for hot chocolate (later alternate spellings would include Coco Tea and Coco T). He soon met top dancehall producer Henry “Junjo” Lawes\, and recorded a series of hit singles that included “Rocking Dolly\,” “I Lost My Sonia\,” “Informer\,” and “Can’t Stop Cocoa Tea.” His first album\, Weh Dem a Go Do…Can’t Stop Coco Tea\, was released in 1985 and compiled many of his previous successes (a slightly different version\, Rocking Dolly\, was later issued in the U.S.). Lawes moved his operation to New York\, and King Jammy became Tea’s primary producer just as he was beginning to expand his focus to Rastafarian lyrical themes. The results included two albums\, 1986’s The Marshall and 1987’s Come Again\, and hit singles in those two title tracks\, “Tune In\,” and “Settle Down\,” among others. (credit Allmusic).

SUMMARY:Skyzoo + Elzhi: Retropolitan Tour
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Nov. 10\n8pm – 12am\, Ages 21+ \nRetropolitan Tour starring\nSkyzoo (Brooklyn\, NY)\nElzhi (Detroit\, MI)\n+ tour support; Landon Wordswell\, 60 East\, Philmore Greene\n& special guests: Nick Cruz w/ Ruler Why? \nBUY TICKETS \n$10 Early Bird Special\n$15 General Admission\n$20 Day Of Show\nJoin the event on FB Here! \nWe are proud to welcome the Retropolitan Tour to Austin\, TX on Nov. 10 @ the historic Flamingo Cantina\, starring Skyzoo & Elzhi + tour support by Landon Wordswell\, 60 East\, Philmore Greene\, DJ Chip Deville! \n \n \nAbout Skyzoo: When rumors spread months ago that Skyzoo had begun working on a collaborative project with the iconic Pete Rock it quickly set social media aflame. While details were scant\, Mello Music Group is happy to finally reveal the details and officially announce Skyzoo & Pete Rock’s new album\, Retropolitan\, with Billboard who premiered the lead single It’s All Good. \nIt’s All Good finds Skyzoo skating over a beat from Pete’s secret “SP-1200 stash\,” and this one in particular was produced in 1994 around the same time as Pete’s Illmatic sessions with Nas. \nRetropolitan includes 12-tracks\, all produced by Pete Rock\, with features from Styles P\, Benny The Butcher\, Conway\, Westside Gunn\, Elzhi\, and Raheem DeVaughn. \nIt is more than an album of beats. & rhymes. It’s two generations of legendary native New Yorkers putting it down and pulling no punches. Skyzoo & Pete Rock use this album to create a love letter and a wakeup call to the city\, as they have witnessed its culture stripped away layer-by-layer. \nAbout Elzhi: Before the world ever heard the name Elzhi\, the young artist was sitting in the back of classrooms thinking of rhymes and spitting verses\, while his friend Fes banged out beats on lunchroom tables and battled rival emcees on the blacktop after school. He sharpened every blade in his arsenal\, developing his style to measure up against the competition in Maurice Maloneis Hip Hop Shop\, the legendary proving ground for Detroit Artists that has produced some of the greatest emcees in the world. Elzhi spent years paying dues\, writing songs\, entering battles\, and recording demos until he made his international debut on Come and Get It\, a standout track from J Dilla’s album\, Welcome 2 Detroit. The critically acclaimed song drew massive attention to the mysterious artist\, and made his EP\, Out of Focus\, highly sought after. Following that\, he released the critically acclaimed Elmatic as a tribute to Nas as well as to Elzhi’s hometown of Detroit. in 2016 he released his long awaited album “Lead Poison”. Be on the lookout for a new Elzhi album in 2020.

SUMMARY:The Skatalites\, Micah Shalom\, Kung Fu Soundsystem: NIGHT 2
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS FOR NIGHT 2 (SATURDAY 11.09) HERE\n\n\n\n\n\nJamaican ska pioneers\, The Skatalites return to Flamingo Cantina for two nights of performances! 2019 marks their 55th anniversary. Micah Shalom and Kung Fu Soundsystem open the show.\n\n\n\n\nAdvance tickets are $20; ticket sales stop at 6 p.m. day of show; remaining tickets will be $25 cash at the door. Come hungry\, Winston’s Kitchen will be serving up delicious Caribbean food! \n\nJoin the event on FB here. \n\n \nThe original members of the Skatatlies performed on hundreds of recording sessions before forming the band in 1964. They backed most of the vocalists in Jamaica at that time\, including Bob Marley\, Toots and The Maytals\, Jimmy Cliff\, Alton Ellis\, Ken Boothe\, and many more. \nAfter disbanding in 1965\, the individual members continued playing in various groups as the music evolved from ska to rocksteady to reggae. In the late 70’s\, a resurgence of interest in the music began in the U.K. which caused the creation of many bands such as The Specials\, The English Beat\, Madness\, The Selecter\, and Bad Manners. This became known as the “Two-Tone era\,” and these British musicians fused rock music with the ska and reggae. \nIn The early 80’s\, the music started to spread to The U.S.A and other parts of the world\, and bands began to emerge everywhere playing different flavors of ska and reggae fused with whatever else they wanted to throw in\, including hard core\, jazz\, and even punk. In 1983\, The Skatalites reunited to play Reggae Sunsplash in Montego Bay and subsequently in London at The Crystal Palace for the U.K version of The Sunsplash event. \nA few years later\, they began emigrating to the U.S.A.\, and in 1986\, the first US shows began at The Village Gate in NYC. In 1989\, the band supported Bunny Wailer on The Liberation Tour\, and in 1990\, they embarked on their first headline tour of The U.S.A. and have not stopped touring the world ever since. The band is available for festivals and also plays in intimate club settings. Their unique infectious brand of real Jamaican ska pleases audiences of all ages across the globe year after year. “We hope you will enjoy listening to our music as much as we enjoy performing it for you.” \nForever indebted to the inspiration and talent of: Roland Alphonso\, Lloyd Brevett\, Tony DaCosta\, Rupert Dillon\, Don Drummond\, Joseph “Lord Tanamo” Gordon\, Jerome “Jah Jerry” Haynes\, Lloyd Knibb\, Tommy McCook\, Donat Roy “Jackie” Mittoo\, John “Dizzy Johnny” Moore\, Jackie Opel\, Doreen Shaffer\, Lester Sterling.

SUMMARY:Bret Bollinger of Pepper\, Tunnel Vision
DESCRIPTION:BUY TICKETS HERE\nDoors 9PM\nOnline ticket sales end at 6 p.m. day of show. $12 advance tickets on sale now / remaining tickets $15 cash at door \nBret Bollinger in an American musician who is best known as the lead singer and bassist for the rock band\, Pepper. Bollinger was born in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii\, and started Pepper shortly after high school graduation in 1997. Over the past two decades the band has sold over a million albums worldwide and toured extensively across the globe\, including all of the United States and over 50 other countries. Pepper has shared the stage with the likes of Snoop Dogg\, 311\, Sublime and Blink 182. They have appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live (July\, 2013)\, Fuse TV\, ESPN X-Games\, and Playboy TV. \nPepper’s popularity has placed them in heavy rotation on the world famous Los Angeles radio station\, KROQ\, and landed them multiple San Diego Music Awards. Finally their music has been placed in several feature films including Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)\, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2007)\, and Good Luck Chuck (2007)\, as well as video games such as Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Transworld Surf. Currently the band is recording new music and continuing to tour extensively\, having just released a successful album\, Ohana\, which was recorded at their own studio\, Kona Town Recording. The band recently embarked on an extensive summer 2018 tour with Slightly Stoopid and Stick Figure. \nBollinger is simultaneously launching a solo career\, and will be releasing his debut EP\, “LO-FI”\, on November 12th 2018. LO-FI aims to showcase a vintage reggae/rock sound\, while also providing a fresh take on the genre. The follow-up EP\, “HI-FI”\, will be released in 2019 and will sound more contemporary and commercial than it’s counterpart as the name implies. Both EP’s will be promoted with extensive touring starting also in the Fall of 2018. Aside from music\, Bollinger also has his own clothing brand known simply as BOLNGR which can be found in trendy brick & mortar boutiques\, surf shops and popular music\, arts\, lifestyle fests like Cali Roots\, One Love\, and Field of Haze. \nBollinger takes the stage at midnite. \nTunnel Vision is quickly becoming Southern California’s favorite new Surf\, Reggae\, Ska band. The band is comprised of five musicians who grew up in the San Clemente\, area with instruments in their hands and skateboards and surfboards under their feet. Tunnel Vision originally formed as a three-piece band\, with Hayden Hanson as the lead singer and guitarist\, Jacob Hernandez on bass\, and Tanner Payan on drums and additional vocals. The three have been long time friends\, who grew up surfing spots like SC Pier\, Calafia\, 204’s\, Black’s\, Oceanside Jetty\, Trestle’s\, and T-street and Skateboarding iconic bowls like The Vans Combi\, Encinitas YMCA\, Clairemont\, Carmel Valley and Oceanside’s MLK Skatepark. \nGrowing up in SoCal\, the band was heavily influenced by the Punk Rock\, Reggae and Ska Music of bands like The Descendents\, Black Flag\, Misfits\, Sublime\, Slightly Stoopid\, The Expendables\, NoFX\, Rancid\, and Reel Big Fish\, etc. The boys have all worked in the surf industry for years\, starting out in retail for Rip Curl and moving on to manufacturing surfboards for Lost Enterprises. \nTunnel Vision recently increased the band from a three-piece to a five-piece by adding Doug Alani and Matt Risley. Matt Risely & Doug both met the guys through their connections with Lost’s retail store\, Catalyst. Matt is Texas surf transplant. Matt plays keys for the band and is an avid Surfer and Skateboarder as well. Doug brings his mad saxophone skills to the sound of Tunnel Vision\, when he is not in the courtroom tipping the scales for justice\, he is cranking out tunes with Tunnel Vision. \nIn 2015\, Anthony Levato joined the Tunnel Vision crew and started managing the boys. Anthony connected Tunnel Vision with Tom Maxwell of Whiskey Barrel Records and together they all connected with San Diego favorite Miles\, Kyle & Dela of Slightly Stoopid. Slightly Stoopid let them record their debut album at Slightly Stoopid’s “The Lab” Studio in San Diego. The self titled debut album Tunnel Vision rolled out in July and is now available on ITunes and the store section of the web site. \nTunnel Vision will continue with their love of music\, travel\, surfing and skating with groups like Miles for Myles\, Fender Charity\, and Surfrider. Tunnel Vision takes the stage at 10:30.
